I could really use some more bosses. And if their requests and opinions could be more mutually exclusive, that would be great.
Hooray work!

I finally just gave up. I have two bosses and a really opinionated coworker. Whenever there is an issue, I just call them all over and let them hash it out. Unless it’s mission critical I go with whatever they say because I just don’t care anymore. If I’m asked for an opinion, I give it, plus my best reason for it and then shut up and wait.
I read an apocryphal story once about Winston Churchill that helped me. Churchill had given a painting of a field to Henry Luce ( a Publisher) who had hung it on his office wall. Once, when Churchill was visiting Luce, Luce remarked “It is a good picture, but it needs something in the foreground; a sheep perhaps”. Churchill said nothing, but the next day Churchill’s secretary sent to Luce to have the painting sent back. Luce was now deeply worried that he had insulted Churchill. A few days later, the man received the painting in the mail with sheep added. The moral is: Just add the fucking sheep.
I now have a doodle of a sheep taped to my computer just to remind me to stop arguing and add the sheep.

Alternatively, you could have one boss on the opposite side of the country who never returns your calls.

Did Churchill paint the painting?

One time the leader of my organization wanted something done that another organization was responsible for, so he loaned me “part time” to that other group to do a specific job. That organization thought that I was filling a whole role rather than doing a specific job and gave me a boss and a mentor for the role; the whole 9 yards. The leader of my org also gave me a boss in our org (not my normal boss) to make sure the specific job got done. So now I have 3 bosses for two jobs, all of whom disagree on what I should be doing. I spent most of my time in various meetings for all of them explaining what meeting had kept me from actually doing anything that day. 6 months of a complete lack of productivity later, I was put back to my normal job.

It’s possible he did, dude was a pretty talented oil painter to the point his works have been displayed in collections and sold at auction for like hundreds of thousands of dollars.

According to the story, yes. Rereading I can see I didn’t really specify that. Whoops!

I’ve had this story stuck in my head since I read it. Thinking of doing the same with the sheep. Simple, easy

Cool! Really stuck with me too. It comes from a book called “The 48 Laws of Power”.

Reading a business summary of the book for the big take aways. Touch overly aggressive in my opinion - possible power moves, but combined a lot of this is going to lead to you looking like a total douche

Oh yeah, it’s way too aggressive. But as a completely not aggressive person, it helped me better understand the bullshit other people are trying to pull, as well as teaching me a couple of important lessons about how to demand what I want. I didn’t finish it.

14 page summary was good enough for me. Some good take aways and yes, good way to look at what people are doing to “play” the game. Especially in a super corporate world (which is where I’m at).
